The first official showroom of MUTT Motorcycles, a Birmingham, England-based custom vintage motorcycle specialist, was inaugurated last Friday in Clark, Pampanga, further boosting the presence of British mobility marques in the country.
Located at Gas Retail Plaza, Udenna Avenue corner 2nd Street, Clark Global City, Pampanga, the showroom kicks off the MUTT Motorcycles Philippines’ campaign to establish presence in key locations for the growing population of motorcyclists as it brings a completely new and unique genre—the small-displacement retro-look British custom bike.
The Clark site will soon be followed by four new MUTT showrooms that will open this year: Mall of Asia in Pasay City, A. Bonifacio in Quezon City, La Union, and the flagship store in Estancia Mall, Pasig.
“We’re thrilled to welcome British bike lovers to the first official MUTT Motorcycles showroom here in Clark. These new bikes will bring a unique and fun new dimension to two-wheeled mobility—MUTT Motorcycles is nothing less than a game-changer in the Philippine motorcycling scene,” said Erroll Duenas, President of United Asia Automotive Group Inc. (UAAGI), the official exclusive distributor of MUTT Motorcycles in the Philippines.
Duenas joined UAAGI vice chairman Kenneth Sy in cutting the ceremonial ribbon in the presence of other UAAGI and MUTT Motorycycles PH officials.
Born and bred in the UK
Mutt Motorcycles was founded in Birmingham, the UK by Benny Thomas, one of the most respected personalities in the British custom bike scene. Thomas specialized in designing, sourcing, and customizing high-end motorcycles for Harley Davidson and even Porsche. In 2013, he and his business partner, Will Rigg, spotted a gap in the motorcycle market for small-engine but equally stylish, vintage-looking custom bikes.
And now, after making their mark with over a hundred showrooms worldwide, that novel and inspired a new genre of beautiful Birmingham-bred motorbikes will be turning heads on Philippine roads.
“Birmingham is the true birthplace of the British motorcycle industry. MUTT Motorcycles are crafted with a similar vibe to how bikes were built in England decades ago. I’m excited that Filipinos can now experience British retro-style motorcycling right here in our country,” Duenas added.
The MUTT Motorcycles philosophy
MUTT Motorcycles has been building serious custom bikes for a very long time. But due to the size, complexity, and expense of high-end, vintage motorcycles, the custom bike scene can seem quite inaccessible to most riders. MUTT Motorcycles changed that.
MUTT started applying that same build quality and style to small-displacement bikes. They took small-cc motorcycles to the next level, and MUTT’s approach meant building them a little differently, with incredible attention to detail.
The whole ethos behind MUTT is to create a bike that’s easy to ride and maintain, affordable to buy and run while giving riders the same feel and sound of a classically styled custom machine.
MUTT Motorcycles employ the latest materials and technologies: Delphi fuel injection, TIG-welded stainless steel, rear gas shocks, aluminum low-rise bars, CNC-machined fork caps, and head stem nut, Alcantara seat upholstery, aluminum rider, and pillion pegs, exhaust heat shield, and even ABS and bullet-style LED signal lights on aluminum stalks.
MUTT designers knew they could be accessible and still deliver a classic style with strength and a true custom vibe, but on a leaner machine—a bike that would be easy to handle, quick to respond, and adaptable to any riding condition.
MUTT Motorcycles Philippines’ objective is to make MUTT and custom motorcycling as accessible and affordable as possible without comprising quality or style. By focusing attention on the strength of the build, and stripping away unnecessary frills, MUTT has managed to create solid, super-cool, small-cc motorcycles at a level you can just jump on and get going.
British retro-style, Japanese reliability
To do this, MUTT Motorcycles spent time developing and sourcing parts with manufacturers throughout Asia. MUTT needed a robust, reliable starting point for their customs, so acquired a version of the bulletproof Suzuki GN 125 motor, an engine renowned for its power and longevity. The base chassis and drivetrain are produced to MUTT’s meticulous specification and design. MUTT constructs them using a variety of unique bespoke parts to create a classic British custom look.
Today, MUTT motorcycles come with 125cc and 250cc global-made engines. Philippine-market models will be the bigger 250cc 4-stroke bikes, which deliver superior everyday performance than the vast majority of non-big bike motorcycles on the road.
MUTT Motorcycles come in 10 different models and in the following colorways: Matte Black, Matte Green, Silver, Glossy Gray, and Raw Steel. Prices for MUTT Motorcycles start at P185,000.
